Justin's 31st Birthday

Considering my hubby's birthday was on March 9th this post is just a tad bit late. Oh well.. better late than never! This year Justin turned 31 which he said seemed much bigger than 30. He is a HUGE UNC basketball fan and his birthday always falls near if not on the UNC VS Duke game. He likes to watch the game with his friends and family to celebrate so it has become somewhat of a tradition! You can see his UNC/Duke 30th birthday here. Typically I would have hosted everyone at our house but third trimester fatigue was in full force so we switched it up and reserved a private room at Hickory Tavern. It was the best decision to do that! We had the whole room to ourselves, plenty of TV's, I didn't have to cook or clean and everyone had a great time! I call that a win.

I loved how his cake turned out. You have to love Roy!

I love you Justin! I hope you had a wonderful 31st birthday. I love celebrating milestones with you!

-----

And just for fun... Justin's 28th, 29th, 30th and 31st birthday celebration all watching the Carolina Duke game. (:

Birthday Fun

This week Justin and I are both on Vacation. I am finally finished with summer school so I can have a quick summer break before school starts back and Justin has this whole week off! We have been busy going to the beach, eating our fair share of crab cakes and shrimp, sleeping in and celebrating my 26th birthday and Henson's second birthday! We decided to have a staycation at my moms house in Holden Beach which is just a short 30 minutes from our house. I'm ready to get back to vacay mode so I'm going to jump right in!

Henson turned a big two years old last Friday! His birthday falls just 3 days before my birthday so we decided to have Justin's parents over for dinner to celebrate. I was itching to try out Christina from North Carolina Charm's layered Funfetti birthday cake with whipped butter cream frosting (recipe here). It turned out excellent! I will be saving this recipe for future birthdays! I also made Henson some doggy edible pupcakes for his big day. They had peanut butter frosting so needless to say he LOVED them.

Happy second birthday Henson! .. and here is to year 26 for me!

Birthday Weekend

Birthdays that fall on a Friday are the absolute best because you get to celebrate all weekend! It was a rainy weekend at the beach but that didn't stop us from celebrating! When I came home from babysitting on Friday I had all sorts of goodies waiting for me. After gifts and visiting with everyone we headed to dinner with my dad, sister, Justin and his parents to one of our favorite local spots, Boardwalk Billy's. This restaurant has a gorgeous view overlooking the water and always has live music playing. While we were at dinner one of my best friends from college got engaged!! Congratulations Maghan!

I LOVE my new classroom sign!!

I was thanking my sister for the earrings she got me. They are the symbol for friendship because she said I was her best friend. It doesn't get sweeter than that my friends. (:

Saturday morning was rainy which made for the perfect time to sleep in and take it easy. Does it get better than a rainy Saturday morning.. especially, with family in town, homemade french toast, bacon, coffee and fresh flowers! Perfection! We finally got our act together Saturday and headed to the mall to take advantage of tax free weekend. I was able to score some pretty awesome deals on fall clothes and a pair of Frye boots!! I have been wanting a pair of Frye's for FOREVER but didn't want to pay the full price. I finally lucked up when I had a gift card I could apply, a $30 off coupon, no tax AND 25% off because the guy helping us was awesome. Now I am ready for cooler weather so I can start wearing them around!! We made it back Saturday night just in time to enjoy a seafood dinner and homemade strawberry lemonade cake made by Justin's mom. It was all SO delicious!

Finally!! I'm still so excited!

Sunday was spent at Newspring Church, Cracker Barrel, and at a celebration of life for Justin's grandfather. Sunday was a good reminder of just how important your faith and family is.

Birthday Wishlist

It's almost August which means it's birthday time! This Friday, August 1st to be exact! I don't like to ask for a lot of presents on my birthday but when the fiance starts asking for present ideas I can't help but start dreaming up my wish list. Here is a sneak peak into some of the things I would just love to have this year. Many of which have been on my wish list for quite some time just waiting for the perfect time to be bought.

Monogrammed Seersucker Scalloped shorts

I knew from the moment I saw these that I just had to have them. I love anything monogrammed, seersucker or with scallops, but add it all together and I am in heaven. Swoon! I actually already know I am getting these because the fiance had no idea where to find them and needed a little help. I pointed him in the direction of The Lazy Daisy and now am just waiting patiently for them to arrive!

gift card to go towards a new pair of riding boots

I already know this fall I am going to need a new pair of riding boots. Since they can be pricey I would love a Belk gift card to help me out when I go to make my purchase this fall!

World Market/Target gift cards for home decor

You really can't go wrong with a gift card. Since I am in the process of buying things to furnish and decorate my new home gift cards could allow me to get some of the things I've been eyeing. [hint, curtains, throw pillows, a rug..]

Travel Coffee Mug

Preferably one with a lid that twist on instead of the suction type. I have had oodles of travel coffee mugs over the years but it never fails that they all eventually leak. There is nothing that bothers me more than being fully dressed driving to work and to get coffee all over me. No thank you. I desperately need a new mug!

Monogrammed Crew neck Sweatshirt

No explanation needed. What girl doesn't want one?!

What's your favorite things to ask for when your birthday rolls around?

Birthday Central

If you saw the post before this one you know it's my little sisters birthday! Happy Birthday Ginny!! Did you know there is another birthday to celebrate today?! This little ole' blog's one year old today! I thought my sister and my blog both deserved a post of their own(:

When I started this blog I had no expectations to have any followers or to meet anyone. It was simply a way to kill time and an outlet to talk about things that were on my mind. I didn't even tell my friends or family I had a blog for a while!

Boy was I in for a surprise!

This blog has opened so many doors for me. I have found amazing blogs to follow that have allowed me to follow along on all of your journeys through life. I have met actual friends. I have connected with other girls that I have entirely way too much in common with and learned more than I could imagine about myself through blogging. I honestly had no idea this little hobby would last an entire year!

Let's take a look where I was a year ago:

This picture was taken EXACTLY one year ago. I know because it was Ginny's birthday(:
Notice my bare legs? It was upper 70's that day!

I was a junior in college tackling way too much. I was taking an 18 hour course load, working two jobs: babysitting after school and working as an office assistant in the Business and Informational Technology building, serving on the Executive Council as House Manager for my sorority, Living with 22 girls in the ZTA house, in a serious relationship and completing all my duties as a Teaching Fellow. Looking back I know I was taking on way too much. I would often times find myself stressed and unhappy. I believe when I started blogging it made me put a lot of things into perspective and rearrange my priorities! (All for the better) oh and I only had ONE Basset Hound!

Let's take a look at how I have changed over the past year.
and if I changed so did my blog- it is a reflection of me after all!

My family got Charlie, our second Basset Hound!!

I learned to appreciate simple things like being home with my family for the Holidays

My love for beach music grew as I attended many concerts & festivals

I finished up my junior year as well as my two jobs and moved home for the summer. I was nervous to go from being so busy everyday to doing n-o-t-h-i-n-g. Living in a small town I didn't think I would be happy at all. Surprise, surprise! It was the best summer ever!! I learned to relax more than I had the entire past school year. I spent almost every day at the pool or the beach reading.

If that isn't the definition of relaxation I don't know what is..

My grandmother passed away. While this was a very heartbreaking and difficult time, it also allowed my mom, sister and I to grow spiritually together.

I turned 21- that was a fun and long awaited milestone!

I experienced a tornado, a hurricane and a campus lock down all while at school!

I started my senior year of college. Talk about a reality check! It hit me that time is precious and my college journey was coming to a close. I couldn't wrap my head around this and decided I was not going to waist one minute of this last year. This is also the time my boyfriend and I broke up. I think a big part of that decision had to do with school and timing.

I met some AMAZING people through my blog. Seriously, I cannot tell you how thankful I am for the friendships that have been created through this world of blogging.

I had a true realization that it is your decision if you want to be happy or not. It's as simple as: If you want to be happy, then be. If you don't, then don't. This realization has helped me to find true happiness in each and every day- even on my very worst day. I know my very worst day could be someone else's best day.

I normally pout all through fall and winter about how much I miss summer. Not this year! I embraced fall and loved every moment of the season. I'm still working on winter(;

I started second semester, meaning my last semester in college and began my internship full time. I can't say this hasn't crossed my mind:

and that leads us to here!

Where am I now?
I'm finishing up my last semester in school before I graduate. I'm in an internship in a second grade class and loving every single minute of it. I'm still babysitting the same girl. I'm trying to figure out what to do with myself in May when I enter the big girl world. And lastly, I'm just happy.

Not a bad year right?
Happy Birthday A Sweet Simple Southern Life

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Ginny
Happy 20th birthday to the sweetest girl and best sister I could ever ask for. I love you!
