Mason Dixon Thursday

Yesterday one of my education classes took a trip to our Assistive Technology lab. This lab is full of equipment that is made to aid students with special needs. One piece of technology we were looking at as a class was a voice to text transmitter for students who may be able to speak but not write. Basically you talk and this machine type out what you are saying. We all thought it was pretty neat and were trying it out as a class. When it got to a guy who is from the North and has a very distinct accent we were curious to see if it picked up on some of his words. He said the sentence "Can I get a cup of coffee and a hotdog." With coffee and hotdog being pronounced very distinctly in his accent the machine didn't pick up on it at all. We all got a good laugh out of it and moved on. It got me thinking though about the differences of culture above and below the Mason Dixon line. I have a deep love for all things southern; too much love to share in just one blog post. So.. this will be number one of

I love the southern drawl and sayings you find below the Mason Dixon.

If you didn't know what I was talking about, now you should..

More than just a southern drawl you also have to understand the lingo.

"What in the sam hill is that?!"
"She can't help she was born with hair like that, bless her heart."
"You can't squeeze blood out of a turnip"
"I near 'bout broke my ankle in those shoes"
"yall" -enough said
"Don't count your chickens till they hatch"
"He's a good ol' boy"

Any southern sayings I missed? Have a good day yall!

Take Me Home Tonight

Whew! I don't think I have ever been so relived for it to be Wednesday afternoon! Yesterday was jam packed with things I needed to get done. My big event of the week was I taught my first lesson at my internship yesterday! I was super nervous but thankfully it went great! I'm very relieved that it's over and I can now focus on things that are more important. Like... the fact that fall break starts today! Yay! I will be heading home shortly to see the parents and my puppies.

Aren't they precious?!

Since I will soon be on the road I am trying to get my Ipod together.
A couple hours on the road calls for only the best music of course!
Here are some songs on the playlist for today:

  1. Wagon Wheel- Old Crow Medicine Show
  2. Build Me Up Buttercup- The Temptations
  3. Boys From the South- Pistol Annies
  4. Take Me Home Tonight- Eddie Money
  5. Cleaning This Gun- Rodney Atkins
  6. Buy You a Drink- TPain

Weekend Recap

This was a fabulous weekend here in Greenville! Friday night started off with a wonderful dinner my grand little made for some friends. We enjoyed homemade enchiladas, chips salsa and queso with a few beverages. So yummy and so much fun! I will have to get the recipe to share. After dinner we headed downtown to see the Craig Woolard Band. I have seen them several times and absolutely adore them! They sing beach much with a little jazz thrown in. I was even lucky enough to dance on stage with them for Boogie Shoes(:

I look funny but here is my dancing proof!

Saturday was full of sunshine and football! My parents were in town for the ECU vs. UNC football game and we had such a fun tailgate. The game did not end well or start well. But I still love the pirates- maybe next time.
